As a young boy, I could never understand why dad would wake me up early in the wee hours of a cold morning to fix the neighbor’s furnace. How could he be so cruel? In the summer, he dragged me in to the haying season kicking and screaming – baseball was more fun. During my high school years, I had no choice – work in his machine shop and learn the machinist trade. Later, he told me I was going to engineering school. It just goes from bad to worse…. Or, so I thought…..
He was sneaky, for sure. He didn’t tell me that he was trying to instill a good work ethic, or teach me to work through pain, or how to use tools, and how to use my brain. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway.
Now, I look back and say wow! Dad was right! I’m glad he forced me to learn mechanics, electrics, machining, assembly, and plumbing. It is as though he knew I would some day be working in the solar and wind power industry.
Now, after years of learning about renewable energy and having installed, upgraded, and maintained renewable energy systems, I still get excited when someone in my community calls to ask how they can get in the game. It is exciting to look out and see panels and turbines quietly doing their jobs – day in and day out. Then, the mail comes, and there is no electric bill. How awesome!
The future is exciting in the energy field. Energy is our economy’s life-blood. Whether you speak of petroleum, natural gas, coal, nuclear, or renewable sources, energy employs a lot of people. But, that isn’t what is exciting. Our country is fundamentally shifting to cleaner, safer electricity sources, and the exciting part is that our federal and state governments are demonstrating strong support for citizens and their personal economies. Government incentives in the form of tax credits, low interest loans, tax deferrals, and guaranteed loans are plentiful.
The future at Renewable Energy Management is bright – lit with solar electrified bulbs! Your future should include the same benefits of a locked in electric rate, and reliable, outage free power produced in your own back yard!
